So that's the first week of the Summer Holidays over with and for the most part it's been sunny so we've had a few trips out and about.
On this particular day even though we kept getting the odd black clouds floating by we decided to have a trip to Roker beach.... much better without the crowds from the airshow.
Now if you look just off middle in the picture below you will see a little dot. This little dot is actually the lighthouse at the end of Roker pier, somewhere I've never actually been to so I decided that this was our mission for today, to walk to the end of the pier.
On the way there we saw this HUGE ship come out of the harbour, it was enormous. I later found out that it was loaded up with cars and they were on their way to St Petersburg , quite a journey.
Even when we got the gates at the end of the Pier you can see that is still a long way to go . By this stage the boys were getting quite tired but I egged them on with a promise of an ice cream once we'd done it.
I have to say that I was a bit nervous as I kept thinking that the boys would fall off into the water but I needn't have worried as they were fine.
The closer we got to the lighthouse the windier it got so both caps were put in my bag just in case Billy Windys decided he wanted to throw them into the water and as you can see there were lots of fisherman out there too. Although we were told that today wasn't a particularly ' good day for bites'. Personally I've never seen the enjoyment in fishing but I suppose if you wanted peace and quiet and to be alone with Mother Nature then this could be an option for you.
Looking back towards the land just gave me a completely different perspective of Sunderland and I could see why Roker beach was very popular in the Victorian times . I took some photo's of the old houses but for some reason they were all a bit blurry so unfortunately I can't show you them .... maybe next time.
We all had a bit of a rest after our long trek and I did make good on the promise of ice creams .
I wonder what we can get up to this week??

A Bit of Fun....
Okay, so what do you do when it's hot and clammy and you see Pops hosing down the yard?
You strip off to your underpants and dance around the yard like a loony !!

First Day of the School Holidays
So here we are again, first day of the Summer holidays . The last school year has just flown by , I can't believe that when they go back the boys will be in years 4 and 1... scary stuff.
Anyway , the annual air show fell on the first day of the holidays so off we went and for once the sun was shining . We haven't seen much of it lately but it was most definitely a scorcher.
The only thing that Milo really wanted to do was to go see Optimus Prime from The Transformers , there were HUGE queues to go inside the little tent to get a certificate to say that you had actually seen him but he was quite happy with doing a bit of a queue jump just to get his photo taken.
I can't remember the last time I've seen so many people here it was totally heaving and to be honest I was quite worried that I'd lose one of the boys so I tried to stay on the outskirts of the throng so to speak. There weren't any queues to try the helmet on so we took full advantage of that.
Then a little play on the sand before heading off to get ice creams.
One of my favourites is always the parachutists , it amazes me how they all stay in line with all the twirling and going upside down. We didn't stay until the end of the show as it was just too busy so we didn't see the Red Arrows which are another fave and always leave me wanting to watch Top Gun!
The second day of the show is on today and every so often we can hear or sometimes see the planes going overhead but to be honest I don't think the boys would have wanted to go back again. So today has just been a bit of a lazy day.
Hope you're all having fun wherever you are.

Sunday Snippets...
For the morning of Gabe's birthday I blew up a load of balloons, so many that I actually went dizzy, and fastened them all to the outside of his bedroom door so that he walked into them when the door was opened. They're now all bunched together and hanging from a hook in the hall ceiling.
After dinner, which was mouth watering we went for a walk down the park as the sun was actually shining, there has been so much rain lately I'd forgotten what it looked like. I love the insides of foxgloves... so pretty.
Hope you had a jumping Sunday too.
